Please reach us at homebody.amy@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed into the collective space and offered water or tea while you settle in. You’re also welcome to use the restroom beforehand if desired.
If you have not already completed your health history and intake forms, your therapist will guide you through filling those out on one of our tablets before your session begins.
From there, you and your therapist will spend a few minutes reviewing your health history, discussing any current concerns, areas of tension, sensitivities, goals for the session, and preferences around pressure, focus areas, communication, or pace of treatment. We understand that every nervous system is different, and your comfort and sense of safety are important to us.
Your therapist will then explain their general plan for the session before stepping out of the room so you may dress down to your personal comfort level and get settled onto the table beneath the sheets and blankets provided. After a few minutes, your therapist will knock before re-entering the room to begin the session.
Each treatment is tailored to your individual needs, comfort level, and therapeutic goals on that particular day.
After the session, your therapist will step out again while you slowly get up and dressed. Clients are encouraged to take their time transitioning afterward, especially if they are feeling deeply relaxed or grounded from the work. Once you’re ready, you can open the door and your therapist will reconnect with you, offer water, discuss any aftercare recommendations, and help with rebooking if desired.
Maya Abdominal Therapy is a gentle, external bodywork technique rooted in traditional Maya healing practices. The therapy focuses on the abdomen and pelvis to encourage healthy circulation, improve the flow of blood, lymph, nerves, and energy, and support the body's natural ability to find balance.
Every body is different, but Maya Abdominal Therapy may help support:
For postpartum clients, Maya Abdominal Therapy is generally recommended beginning around 12 weeks after delivery, once your body has had time to begin healing. Every birth and recovery is unique, so we'll discuss your individual experience before beginning treatment.
Maya Abdominal Therapy should never feel aggressive or forceful. Some areas of tension may feel tender, but treatment is always adjusted to your comfort level. Most clients describe the experience as deeply relaxing and nurturing.
Not at all. While this therapy can be incredibly supportive during postpartum recovery, it is also beneficial for many women & men seeking support for menstrual health, digestive function, pelvic wellness, fertility preparation, sexual function or simply reconnecting with their bodies.
If you've been experiencing painful periods, pelvic discomfort, digestive concerns, postpartum changes, or simply feel disconnected from your core, Maya Abdominal Therapy may be a beautiful place to begin. We'd be honored to support you and answer any questions you have before your first appointment.
